John B. Beard was born in 1826 in Bedford County, Tennessee. His father died in 1845, leaving many young children. John and his brother Josiah, just in their teens, no doubt were then the major providers on the farm, helping their mother and siblings. John married a young lady of a neighbor family, Lucinda Anne Welch, on 2 April 1846. She was born in Tennessee in 1826, the daughter of Harvey B. and Elizabeth Rambo Welch. nd on that census they had two children named Elijah and Martha for John's parents. In 1860, listed with seven children, John was an overseer, no doubt on one of the very large plantations surrounding his home. John probably served with the Confederates in the Civil War, but we have found no records yet. In 1870, they lived in Marshall County with eight of their nine children at home. Later that year, both John and his wife Lucinda contracted pneumonia and died, leaving nine children with no parents. The children were taken in and raised by various Beard relatives. Several of them would go to Arkansas and live close to their eldest sister Martha Beard Luna and to their uncle, Josiah "Sy" or "Cy" Beard and his family, who had settled in Benton County, Arkansas in 1866. No burial places are yet found for John or Lucinda, however, his mother Martha was buried at Head Springs Cemetery in Marshall County in 1888, so that is a good possibility.
The children and descendants of John B. and Lucinda Ann Welch Beard:
1. Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Beard was born in Marshall County, Tennessee on 26 June 1847. She was named after her two grandmothers, Martha Patton Beard and Elizabeth Rambo Welch. On 7 January 1869 in Marshall County, Mattie became the bride of Jeremiah Monroe Luna. He was born August 1847 in Marshall County, the son of William Clayborn Luna Sr and his wife, Mary Ann Burrough Gant. The Luna family may have had a long history of association with our Beard family, as Jeremiah's ancestors were also in the Valley of Virginia, where in the 1700s Robert "Looney" owned the first ferry in the Valley, on the James River. Robert's grandson Peter Grancer Looney Jr is said to have changed the spelling to Luna. Jeremiah was, like his father, a blacksmith and in 1870 he was listed in Marshall County with Mattie and a two month old daughter, Alice. Tragedy struck in that year, as both Mattie's parents died of pneumonia. The young couple took in the younger children, her siblings, and several went with them to Benton County, Arkansas when they moved there about 1879. On the 1880 census they are found in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas with their three young daughters. Another daughter had died young by this time. Also living with them was Robert Samuel Beard, Mattie's youngest sibling, age twelve. Next door was her brother John Harvey Beard, aged 28, with his wife Mary Jane Hamby and young daughter Eva and John's young brother Doctor Josiah, age 21. Next door on the other side were Mary Hamby's parents. The 1900 census finds them still in Colville. They had six of seven children still living, four of whom live in their home. Their married daughter Alice Luna Catching and her two sons are with them, as well. In 1910 they were still in Colville, with a daughter Lillie and a married son Eugene in their home. Martha Elizabeth Beard Luna died on 20 November 1912 in Benton County, Arkansas. She was laid to rest at Goad Springs Cemetery in Benton County. By the 1920 census, Jeremiah Monroe Luna had been a widower for over seven years. His daughter Lillie lived with him, next door to his son Eugene's family. We do not know the death date of Jeremiah, but he must have died before the next census in 1930. He is also buried at Goad Springs Cemetery, in Benton County where he made a home for over fifty years. Their children and descendants are:
2. Alice F. Luna was born in October 1870 in Marshall County, Tennessee according to the 1900 census. Her gravestone, however, gives 1869 as the year of her birth. On 25 September 1892, she married Joseph Stephen Catching, the son of William H. and Mary Westerfield Catching. He was born in Knox County, Kentucky, on 4 March 1871. Alice and Joseph Catching had two sons before Joseph died on 13 November 1897, and new widow Alice was expecting. The third son was born in 1898 but died as an infant. Both father and infant son are buried at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Benton County. By 1900, Alice was living with her parents in Benton County, Arkansas and she gave the information that she was married for seven years. She had two small boys, Otis and Elbert, and their father's place of birth is listed as Kentucky. Four years later, she married Julius Laner. On the 1910 census, they lived in Esculapia, Benton County, Arkansas. Alice had five children, with Otis and Elbert listed as Catchings and as stepsons. Julius was a shoemaker who owned his business. He was born in September 1867 in Sweden, immigrated in 1889, was naturalized in 1892. In 1900, he lived at Proviso, Cook County, Illinois and worked as a shoemaker. He was divorced at that time. In 1920 and in 1930 Alice and Julius were listed in Benton County. Julius Laner died on 16 June 1950 in Washington County, Arkansas, and he was buried at the Rogers Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas. Alice is buried there, as well, with a death date of 1961. The children of Alice Luna and her unknown Catching husband were:
3. Otis Cicero Catching, who was born 7 August 1894 in Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas. He married about 1914 to Eva Mary Thomas, daughter of J. H. Thomas and J. E. Salling, born Christmas Day 1897 in Arkansas. Otis carried on the trade taught to him by his stepfather Julius Laner and had a shoe shop in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas. In 1934, the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where his brother Elbert and family lived. Otis died in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas in April 1981. Eva Thomas Catching died in July 1985 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas.
4. Vivian Coletta Catching was born 18 August 1915 in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas. She married Gilbert S. Rainey, who was born 19 February 1913 in Arkansas, the son of Russell and Lorine Rainey. Gilbert died on 5 February 1993 in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas. Vivian died on 20 February 2006 in Jonesboro, Lawrence County. An obituary says that she had thirty years service with Southwestern Bell in Walnut Ridge, Tulsa, and Little Rock. Vivian taught Sunday School for over thirty years. Gilbert and Vivian Catching are buried at Lawrence Memorial Park in Lawrence County, Arkansas. They had two children, Martha who married a Fye, and Gilbert Jr.
4. David Otis Catching was born on 23 September 1919 in Arkansas. He entered military service on 14 February 1941 at Oklahoma City and served as a Captain, U. S. Air Force during World War II. David was married to Doris, last name unknown, and had a daughter born 27 March 1957, Candi Kim Catching, who died the same day that he died, on 21 March 1959 in San Diego, California, so this may have been an automobile accident or other. The two were buried together at the United States Military Cemetery at Fort Rosencrans in San Diego, California.
4. Robert Monroe Catching was born 2 March 1924 in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas. Most of the following is from his obituary in the Tulsa World. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with his family in 1934 and graduated at Tulsa Central High School. Robert was an Eagle Scout and he entered the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship and played in the 1942 Sugar Bowl. He entered the United States Air Force after this and served in World War II and in Korea and Vietnam, making the Air Force his career and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a pilot who flew missions over enemy territory during the Cold War. Robert received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the second through seventh oak leaf clusters to his Air Medal for outstanding airmanship. In 1965, he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon on the SR 71 spy plane project. He also was the pilot for Chinese Premier Chou En-lai during his visit to the United States in 1972. Robert Catching was named deputy base commander of Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City in 1969. He was a member of the Christian Assembly Church. He was survived by wife Betty and three daughers, Marilee, Lauralee, and Carmilee Catching, and his sister Vivian Rainey of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. He is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
4. John Stephen Catching was born in 1928 in Arkansas and died in March 1937 in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. He was nine years old. He is buried at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Tulsa.
3. Elbert Leo Catching was born 16 October 1896 in Arkansas. He married Opal McSpadden about 1919, probably in Arkansas. She was born 21 September 1900 in Arkansas, the daughter of Milton M. McSpadden and L. Bell Farmer. Elbert worked in the shoe shop business in the 1920s, but by 1930 they lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her parents and Elbert was in automobile sales. Elbert Catching died at the age of 44 in December 1940, probably in Tulsa. He is buried at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Tulsa. Opal died in August 1980 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she had a daughter, Betty Lou who married a Mann. Opal was buried at Rose Hill beside Elbert.
3. Stephen C. Catching was born in 1898, the year after his father's death. He died in 1899 and was buried at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas.

3. Julius Laner was born 24 June 1905 in Rogers, Arkansas. About 1925, he married a bride named Golda O. Reeves. She was born 24 February 1904 in Arkansas. They lived in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas in 1930, where he owned a shoe repair shop, Laner Brothers Shoe Store, and Golda worked as a telephone operator. His brother R. Monroe Laner lived with them, age 23 and single, and worked in the shoe repair shop. Julius died July 1969 in Fayetteville; Golda Laner died in December 1979 in Fayetteville. They are buried at Fairview Memorial Garden. According to his obituary, Julius served as Grand Master of the State of Arkansas Grand Lodge of Masons in 1959.
3. Robert [?] Monroe Laner was born 20 March 1907 in Rogers, Arkansas. He went by the name "Monroe", sometimes R. Monroe. One of the sons of Otis Catching, his half brother, was named Robert Monroe Catching and this may be his name as well. In 1930, he lived with his brother Julius Laner and wife in Fayetteville and worked in the shoe repair business with his brother. Monroe married Emele Clark, the daughter of Silas and Rachel Clark. She was born 9 November 1906 in Arkansas. He enlisted in the army as a private for World War II, with four years of high school; he stated that he worked as a saw mill foreman and also did shoe repair. Monroe was co owner of Laner Brothers Shoe Repair and a real estate salesman. He died 14 April 1978 in Fayetteville, Arkansas after an extended illness. . Emele Clark Laner died on 31 March 2003 in Fayetteville. They are at rest at Rogers Cemetery.

3. Carl Aubrey Laner was born 20 March 1910 in Arkansas. He married in Arkansas on 30 May 1928 to Golda Estelle McLendon, who was born on 14 February 1912 in Richards, Baca County, Colorado. A descendant of the family has passed on the story that after Golda's father, Marvin Uriah McClendon, passed away in Colorado in 1918, some of the family moved back to Arkansas at the beginning of the depression years, in order to find a cobbler to fashion a boot for one of Golda's brothers, who was disabled. It was there and then that Golda and Carl met at the cobbler shop. Golda's mother, Lula Lee Brown McLendon, remarried to a Conner and stayed in Colorado. In 1930, living in Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas, they had a six month old son named "Ronda" [Rondal]. The family eventually landed in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, and Carl Aubrey Laner died there on 10 April 1988. He was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery there. Golda McClendon Laner passed away 31 January 2015, just two weeks shy of her 103rd birthday
in Tulsa. She is at rest at Memorial Gardens beside Carl.
2. Mary L. Luna was born in 1877 in Marshall County, Tennessee. After the 1880 census, we have no further record of a marriage or death.
2. Annie V. Luna was born about 1878 in Marshall County, Tennessee. After the 1880 census, we have no further record of a marriage or death.
2. Lillie O. Luna was born in January 1882 in Benton County, Arkansas. She lived with her parents until their deaths, and she was on the 1920 census keeping house for her widowed father as a 38 year old, next to her brother Eugene. About 1924, she married Jesse Lee Fagala. He had been married before, his wife Bessie Ann McDaniel had died in 1923 after the birth of her second child, leaving Jesse with two children to raise. Jesse was born on 26 November 1889 in Caldwell County, Missouri, the son of William Mill Fagala and Martha E. Hines. In 1920 he and Bessie were listed in Benton County, Arkansas. Lillie and Jesse are on the 1930 census next to her brother Chesley Luna and family, with Jesse's two children Agnes and Lee, thirteen and seven years old. Lillie died in 1958, we do not know where, but she is buried at Goad Springs Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas. Jesse died 8 February 1973, last residence was Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. He is buried beside his first wife, Bessie, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas. The two children raised by Lillie and Jesse were Mildred Agnes who married Arnold Leonard Combs, and Lee Andrew Fagala, who died in 2005 in Independence, Missouri.
2. Chesley Isom "Bud" Luna, born 26 February 1884 in Benton County, Arkansas, married about 1906 to Rose Jane Pace. She was the daughter of Charles H. Pace and Susan Jane Dawson, and she was born 19 March 1885 in Arkansas. In 1910 they lived at Colville in Benton County with three children and his parents lived next door. By 1920 they had lost a son but had another son. They were still in Colville, on the same census page as Lephly Beard. In 1930 they were still listed in Colville with two children still at home. An infant is buried at Goad Springs Cemetery and marked as their daughter, but no dates are found. Rose Jane Pace Luna passed away on 6 February 1968 at Benton County, Arkansas and her husband Chesley "Bud" Luna died within six weeks of her death in the same. They are both buried at Goad Springs Cemetery in Benton County. Their five known children are:

3. Lewis Adrian Luna was born 23 June 1908 in Arkansas. He was a truck driver in Arkansas. He married Edna M. Downum on 14 April 1935 and they had daughters Lila Lea, who married a Dunn, and Naomi. Lewis died on 19 June 1976 in Benton County; Edna died in June 2007 in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas. They are buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County.
3. Otis L. Luna was born 1 January 1910 in Benton County. He died as a child on 12 November 1913 in Benton County. He is buried at Goad Springs in that county.
3. Bruce H. Luna was born in 1915 in Benton County, Arkansas. He enlisted as a private for World War II at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Little Rock. In civilian life he was a truck or tractor driver, and he was married. No further information is found.

2. Eugene Monroe Luna was born 7 January 1890 in Benton County, Arkansas. About 1910 he married Della Lavona Reed, the daughter of Levi Baxter Reed and Theodocia E. Owenby. She was born in Arkansas on 11 July 1892. After their marriage, they made a home with his parents and in 1910 are listed with them on the census as newlyweds. In 1917, Eugene filled out his draft registration and lived at Lowell, Benton County, Arkansas with a dependent wife and child. In 1920 they were listed at Colville in Benton County, next door to his widowed father and sister Lillie Luna. When he filed his World War II draft papers, Eugene lived at 310 North 2nd Street in Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas and he was a self employed barber. He died on 18 January 1946, probably in Benton County. Della Reed Luna died on 7 September 1947. They are both at rest at Cave Springs Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas. They had one daughter:
3. Hazel Vivian Luna, born about 1911. She is said to have married a Smith; no further records are found.
1. Elijah William "Billy" Beard, born in Marshall County, Tennessee on 8 March 1848, married Elizabeth Ophelia Thompson on 22 December 1870, the year both his parents died. She was born 9 July 1847 in Tennessee; she is said to be the daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth Crawford Thompson. They moved to Sebastian County, Arkansas between 1878 and the time of the 1880 census, and were listed there in Dayton. Elijah worked as a blacksmith and they had four young children. This 1880 census is an anomaly, for there are too many inconsistencies to trust the information it provides. The entire family, except for Elijah, is said to be born in Missouri, and Elijah himself is listed as born in Arkansas, which is all incorrect, as future censuses bear out. At some point after the birth of his last child in 1886, Elijah and Elizabeth moved to Comanche County, Texas. d Elizabeth lived in the household of their son James R. "Jim" Beard, a widower with two young daughters. Jim was carrying on the trade of blacksmithing, while Elijah was listed as having his "own income" at age 60. At some point in the 1920s, "Billy" Beard visited in Benton County, Arkansas with his siblings and many relatives who lived there. This may have been after the death of his wife Elizabeth, who passed away in Amity, Comanche County, Texas on 17 November 1925 and was laid to rest at Amity Cemetery there. Elijah "Billy" Beard died in Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas on 25 July 1938 and was brought to Amity Cemetery for burial next to Elizabeth. Try as we might, we have yet to find him on the 1920 or 1930 censuses.
2. Anne Elizabeth "Annie" Beard was born on 9 January 1872 in Marshall County, Tennessee. She married on 16 November 1885 in probably Sebastian County, Arkansas to John Avander Rachels. John was born 17 September 1865 in Sebastian County, Arkansas, the son of William and Mary Jane Morris Rachels. John's father died when he was five months old and his mother remarried to Joseph P. Basham. John and Annie moved from Arkansas to Comanche County, Texas in covered wagons in 1890, and in 1900 they appear there as parents of six of six living children, five of whom live at home. By 1910, they had a total of ten children. In that census as on the 1920 and 1930, they are still in Comanche County. Annie died on 11 July 1935 at Marlin, Falls County, Texas and John died on 17 January 1949 at Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas. They are both buried under one headstone at Sipe Springs Cemetery, Comanche County, Texas. Their children and descendants:
3. Carrie Lou Rachels, born 4 October 1887 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas married Hugh Marvin Foster in July of 1910 in Comanche County, Texas. He was born in Sipe Springs, Comanche County, Texas on 1 August 1888, son of Hugh Caperton Foster and wife Louisa L. Jones. Hugh and Carrie farmed in Comanche County until 1928, when they went to California. On the 1930 census they are listed in Imperial County, California where Hugh did road work as a grader and their son Joe was a surveyor. They stayed in California, for Hugh Foster died there on 16 September 1964 in Imperial County and Carrie Rachels Foster died on 27 November 1966 in Holtville, Imperial County. they are buried at the traditional family grounds at Sipe Springs Cemetery back home in Comanche County, Texas. their children were Lucile Rachel, who died young, Joe Easter, Eleanor A., John Hugh, Marie G., Billy, who died young, Marvin M., Hazel Dell, Carrie Nell.
3. Willie M. Rachels, a daughter, was born in July 1890 in Comanche County, Texas. No marriage or death record is yet found.
3. John Everette Rachels, born 19 May 1893 in Comanche County, Texas, married Hattie Little Foster in about 1917 in Texas, daughter of Robert Alexander and Margaret Tennessee Wallace Foster. She died young, on 18 November 1924, and in 1930 her children are living with her mother in Comanche County and there is no record for John Rachels. Their children were Anna Margaret, Thelma, and J. E., possibly John Everette Jr.
3. Enoch Elmer Rachels was born 17 May 1895 in Comanche County, Texas. At age 22 when he filed his draft papers, he was single and lived in Sipe Springs. He married 24 July 1921 to Eddie Ruby Underwood, born 1903 in Tennessee, the daughter of Gaylon D. and Mattie Gann Underwood. In 1930, Elmer and Eddie Rachels lived in the home of the Underwoods in Rochester, Haskell County, Texas, where Elmer worked in the grocery business with his father in law. He died in Bedford, Tarrant County, Texas on 20 June 1988, but no burial is found. No dates or burial places are known for Eddie Ruby Rachels. They had at least two children, one of whom was Bobbie J., a daughter.
3. James Ray Rachels was born in April of 1897 in Texas, according to the 1900 census
. He married Thelma, last name unknown, before 1923 and in 1930 they lived in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas with their seven year old son James R. No further records are found.
3. William Oran Rachels was born on 27 November 1900 in Texas. He was living in his parents' home in 1930 but married after to Winifred Crane Brewer. She was born 2 January 1895 and died in Eastland County, Texas on 8 May 1979. He died in Comanche County on 13 February 1985. They are both buried at Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche County.
3. Lillian Ophelia Rachels was born 18 February 1903 in Sipe Springs. About 1927, she married Orvill Jackson Cox, the son of James Sampson and Louisa Jane Steele Cox. He was born 2 April 1891 in Sidney, Comanche County, Texas. In 1930, Orvil and Lillian lived in Comanche County, where he was a mail carrier for the county. They had his son by a previous marriage with them, and a young son of their own, Orvil Jackson Cox Jr. Orvill died on 7 December 1955 in Comanche County. Lillian Rachels Cox died on 4 July 1997 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. They are buried with a double stone at Pendergrass Cemetery, Sidney, Comanche County, Texas.
3. Jesse Lane Rachels was born on 21 November 1904 in Texas. He married on 15 June 1927 to Elois Lemon, the daughter of Elburt L. and Rose A. Lemon. She was born 9 May 1906 in Oklahoma. In 1930, they lived with her mother and sister in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Jesse worked as a machinist in the steel industry. No other information is found but for their death dates: Jesse died on 7 January 1988 and Elois Lemon Rachels died on 25 February 1991, both at Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas.
3. Homer Jean Rachels was born 21 December 1906 in Texas. He married about 1928 to Artis M. Unknown, who was born 1 December 1906 in Texas. In 1930 they lived at Dallas, Dallas County, Texas where he was a clerk at an ornamental iron business. Artis died on 19 August 1988 in Comanche County, Texas; Homer died 17 December 1995 in the same. No burial place is known. Of interest is a book of genealogy in the Comanche County Public Library called Ancestors of Homer Jean Rachels.
3. Ima Rene Rachels was born about 1908 in Texas. She married Charles Owen Wright and they lived in Dallas. She died 3 March 2002 in Dallas and is buried at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas. No grave is found yet for Charles, but he preceded her in death. No further records have been found.
2. James R. "Jim" Beard was born 28 May 1873, probably in Marshall County, Tennessee. He moved to Texas with his family and in about 1899, he married a Texas girl named Lela Frances Rhymes. She was born on 15 December 1879 in Texas; her father was born in Arkansas and her mother was born in Georgia. In 1900, as newlyweds, they lived in Comanche County, Texas not far from his sister Anne Elizabeth Beard Rachels. Jim Beard worked as a blacksmith, as had his father before him. Lela died on 6 February 1910, in Texas, and she is buried at Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche County. She left her husband a widower with two small girls. On the 1910 census, his parents Elijah and Elizabeth Beard lived in his home and must have helped raise the girls. Jim was still working the blacksmith trade, his father was listed as "own income" so probably had retired. Jim Beard raised his daughters as a single father. On his Comanche County draft registration, James R. Beard his daughter "Nadine" was listed as his next of kin. From her obituary, we know that her name was "Norine". On the 1920 census he is not found; in 1930 he lived at Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas with his married daughter N. Gertrude Boggs and family. He gave his occupation as laborer on county roads. We do not have a death date for James. Note that there is another James Beard in Eastland County at the same time, but he is James A. Beard, born in June 1875 and he died in October 1968, not our James R. Beard. One would think that he is buried at either Amity Cemetery, where both his parents lie, or at Sipe Springs, where his wife Lela is at rest, but so far no stone is found. His daughters:
3. Veda Beard was born about 1900 in Texas. We cannot find a record of her after she married, which according to the obituary of her sister was to a Brundage. She had passed away before her sister, so she died before 18 February 2001.
3. Norine Gertrude Beard was born 20 September 1905 in Texas. On 16 December 1924, she married Frank Dixon Boggs in Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas. He was born 21 August 1904 in Rising Star, the son of John Dixon/Dickson Boggs and Francis E. "Fannie" Hicks, natives of North Carolina. In 1930, Dixon and Norine lived in Rising Star. Her father was listed with them, as a 56 year old widower. Dixon was the owner of a service station. The Boggses had three daughters born to them. The first, Mary Jane, was stillborn. Marian Dixon Boggs was born on July 5, 1929. She married Donald Gilbert Parish on December 28, 1951. LaVeda Francine Boggs was born in 1942 and married Dick Scott. Dixon Boggs died 14 October 1981 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. He is buried at Rising Star Cemetery in Eastland County, as is Norine Gertrude Beard Boggs, who died on 18 February 2001 in Abilene, Texas. Her obituary states that she was a member of the Methodist Church and a homemaker who had lived in Rising Star all of her life. Besides two daughters, she is survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
2. Della Alice Beard was born 7 July 1877 in Marshall County, Tennessee. She moved to Comanche County, Texas with her family, and in about 1902 she married William Theodore Gibbons there. He was born 2 December 1875 in Georgia, the son of James and Julia Gibbons. In 1910, "Teddie" Gibbons and wife Della had three children and lived in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. He filed his draft card there in 1917, giving his name as "William Teddie Gibbons", living at 111 Col ? Street in Fort Worth, working for J. R. Dodson in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, wife Della. They are not yet found in 1920, but in 1930 they were back in Eastland County, Texas with six children and a grandson at home. William died on 15 March 1960 in Eastland County and is buried at the Eastland City Cemetery there. Della died in Carbon, Eastland County on 15 July 1971 and lies at the same cemetery. 3. William Wanda Hill Gibbons was born on 11 November 1902 in Texas. In 1930, he was listed in the home of his parents in Eastland County, Texas. He is said to have married a Freeman. William died on 22 March 1974 and was interred at Eastland City Cemetery, Eastland County, Texas.
3. Gladys B. Gibbons, 23 February 1905 in Texas, married about 1923 to W. F. Beaty. In 1930, Gladys and her two children, Roy Lee and Dorothy Beaty, were living with Della and William Gibbons, her parents. Dorothy was born in Scurry County, Texas. In 1930, Gladys Beaty was entered as married, not widowed or divorced; we do not know anything more about this couple. Roy Lee Beaty may be the one buried at Eastland City Cemetery in Eastland County.
3. Howard Gibbons was born on 25 November 1908 in Texas. He died 7 December 1993 in Snyder, Scurry County, Texas. No burial record is yet found.
3. Frankie Elizabeth Gibbons was born 15 November 1910 in Texas. She married a Williams. She is listed in the California Death Index, died 30 December 1991 in Los Angeles County, California, mother Beard, father Gibbons.

2. Lillian Bell Beard was born in December 1878 in Marshall County, Tennessee. Between 1900 and 1910, she married Robert Alexander Landreth in probably Comanche County, Texas. He was the son of Elizabeth Powell and Thornton B. Landreth. Robert's brother John T. Landreth married Lillian's sister, Eula May Beard, in 1908. In 1910 Robert and Lillie lived at Comanche County. By the time he filled out his draft registration, he gave his address as RFD 1, Brown, Texas, with wife Lillie Bell Landreth. In 1920 they are found in Comanche County with a daughter Naomi and also one month old Bonnie May Landreth, who was the daughter of the newly deceased Eula Beard Landreth. In 1930 Robert and Lilly and Naomi Landreth are found still in Comanche County. Lillian Bell Beard Landreth died in 1962 in Texas. Robert died 29 March 1977 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. Their daughter:
3. Naomi Gertrude Landreth was born on 16 December 1914 in May, Brown County, Texas. On 24 November 1938, she married there to Lee Aston Sartain, the son of Wardin Ernest and Dora Agnes Owen Sartain. He was born on 25 September 1915 in Gibtown, Jack County, Texas. Lee was a Baptist Church minister and in the 1950s he was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon, Texas. Naomi died on 30 December 1997 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. Lee died there on 26 June 1998. They are both buried at Amity Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas. Their son, Robert Less Sartain, is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Howard Payne University in Texas.
2. Eula May Beard, born 29 July 1882 in Benton County, Arkansas, moved to Comanche County, Texas with her family and there about 1908 married John T. Landreth, son of Thornton and Elizabeth Powell Landreth and brother of Robert Alexander Landreth who married Eula's sister Lillian. John was born 10 February 1874 in Arkansas. In 1910, John and Eula, married two years, had a baby girl and lived in Comanche County, Texas, next door to his parents. When he filed his draft card in 1917, John lived in Comanche County. John and Eula had five children when she died on 15 December 1919 in Comanche County. It appears that Eula died shortly after giving birth (in November), possibly to twins. Bonnie May Landreth, one month old, appears on the 1920 census with her aunt Lillie Landreth. A son, Johnnie R. Landreth, is not found in 1920 but appears in 1930 as a ten year old, living or visiting in the home of his aunt, Anne Elizabeth Rachels. By 1930, John Landreth was listed as a widower in Comanche County with his four daughters. He lived very close to his 79 year old father. John died in Texas in 1943 and is buried at Amity Cemetery in Comanche County with Eula Beard Landreth. The five known children are:

He and Bonnie appear to be twins. in 1930, he was in the home of his maternal aunt and uncle, Annie and John Rachels, in Comanche County, Texas. He enlisted for World War II at Dallas, Texas on 11 December 1941, five days after Pearl Harbor, and served as a private. He stated that he was an auto mechanic in civilian life. He died on 26 April 1998 in Eastland County, Texas and is buried at Oakland (possibly Oaklawn?) Cemetery in Gorman, Eastland County.
2. Willie Martha Beard was born 25 August 1884 in Benton County, Arkansas. About the year 1908, she married William Nathan Richards in Texas. He was the son of Francis and Mary Richard and he was born 21 March 1883 in Whitesboro, Georgia. William and Willie appear on the 1910 Comanche County census with a baby daughter. He filed his draft card in 1917 in Eastland County, stating that he lived at Rising Star, Texas, worked as a carpenter for DuPont Engineering Company of Jacksonville, Tennessee. They are not yet found in 1920, but in 1930 they were in Comanche County, Texas with their son. Willie Beard Richards died four years later, in Weslaco, Hidalgo County, Texas. William Nathan Richards died 12 December 1963 in the same. They are buried at the City of Weslaco Cemetery in Hidalgo County, Texas. Two known children:
3. Thelma Christine Richards was born on Christmas Day, 1910 in Comanche County, Texas. She married Marion Arthur Barrett, date unknown, who was born on 2 April 1906 in Hamilton County, Texas. He was the son of Alice Agee and Robert A. Barrett, natives of Alabama. In 1930, Thelma and Marion lived in Waco, McLennan County, Texas with a young daughter named Thelma. He was working at a lunch counter as a waiter at that time. It appears that this couple divorced at some point; Thelma may have remarried but no record is yet found. Marion Barrett died with his wife Jesse on 19 September 1968 in a car accident in Clifton, Bosque County, Texas. They are buried at China Springs Cemetery in McLennan County, Texas. Thelma died on 27 November 1987 in Maryland.
3. Monty Lanier Richards was born on 26 April 1911 in Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas. He attended high school in Gorman in Eastland County, then went to Baylor University and Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in central and south Texas. He married in 1933
in Weslaco, Texas to Juanita Griffin and they had three daughters, Condy Ruth, Mary Virginia, and Martha Nell Richards.
2. John Aaron Beard was born 4 September 1886 in Benton County, Arkansas. When he was thirty, he filed his draft card in Comanche County, stating that he was single and had dependent mother and father. He married about 1924 in Texas to Mabel H., last name unknown. She was born 18 October 1892 in Texas. In 1930 they are listed in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. John operated a filling station, Mabel was a stenographer at the university. No other information is known about this couple; it is hoped that someone can provide more information. John died 21 January 1968 in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas and is buried at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery in Abilene. Mabel Beard died 23 February 1972 in Abilene and is buried with him, under a double stone.

by there on Christmas Day, 1875. Mary Jane was born 30 June 1857 in Cave Springs, Benton County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of William Harrison Hamby and Mary F. Dixon, who were married in 1846 in Warren County, Tennessee and came to Benton County in the early 1850s. Mary Jane's elder sister Lucinda married John Harvey Beard's cousin, John M. Beard (son of Josiah) in 1870 in Benton County, and Mary Jane's elder brother George married Minerva Jane Beard there in 1871, also the daughter of Josiah. In 1880, John and Mary Jane lived at Colville in Benton County with a one year old daughter. His brother Doctor Josiah lived with them, and they were next door to their sister, Mattie Beard Luna and her family. Almost everyone nearby was a relative of some kind. In 1900 they still lived at Colville, with three children in the home, and his brother Dock and the Lunas also close by. By 1910, John and Mary Jane had one son, Grover, still at home in Colville. Although on censuses they report four children, family letters state that they had nine children, five of whom died in infancy. John Harvey Beard died on 14 March 1930 in Lowell, Benton County, Arkansas. He was buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County. Mary Jane was listed as a widow on the 1930 census, age 72, living between her two sons Grover and Lephley Beard. She passed away on 28 March 1937 in Lowell, Benton County, and was laid to rest at Spring Creek near John Harvey.
2. Eva Arizona Beard was born 20 August 1878 in Benton County, Arkansas. She grew up there and married Eve Alexander Loyd on 14 August 1898. He was born 24 February 1876 in either Scott County or Benton County, Arkansas, the son of James Alexander Loyd and his wife Sarah Winston. On the marriage license, he is described as from Elm Springs, Washington County, Arkansas and she is from Colville in Benton County. In 1900, married two
years, Alex and Eva Loyd lived in Benton County, two households away from her parents. Eva and Alex divorced before the 1910 census; they had no children and both of them remarried. Alex married a girl named Agnes and they had twin boys about the year 1908; he worked as a depot agent for the railroad. Eva Arizona married about 1907 to Delbert Franklin Dale. He was born 14 September 1882 in Iowa, the son of William and Effie Dale. In 1910 they lived with his parents in Washington, Benton County, Arkansas. They were married for three years with no children. By the time he filed his draft registration, they were living in Helena, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, where he was a farm laborer for J. W. Glidewell. Delbert and Eva still lived in Helena in 1920 and by 1930, they were listed at Enid, Garfield County, Oklahoma, where Delbert was working as a carpenter. Eva died in 1965 and was buried at Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas. Delbert died August 1971 and was also buried at Benton County Memorial Park. They had no children.

In 1910, Lephly and Martha lived in Colville with a baby daughter, Thurma. He filed his draft papers in Benton County in 1918, stating that he was a self employed farmer living at Lowell in Benton
County. By 1920, Lephly and Martha had four small daughters and lived in Colville. By 1930, still in Colville, they had six children at home. In 1938, the family moved to the southern edge of Rogers and in 1942, to a farm north of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. Lephly filled out a draft card for World War II at the age of 59. He lived at Rogers in Benton County and was self employed. Lephly and Martha would have ten children. Martha Jane Jones Beard died on 28 November 1972 in Rogers, Benton County. William Lephly Beard followed on 3 February 1973 in Rogers. They are both laid to rest at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County.

Thurma passed away on 9 July 2005 in San Bernardino County. They are both buried at Ontario in San Bernardino County, California.

In the summer of 2008, the descendants of William Lephley Beard, the great grandson of Elijah Beard, were contacted by a descendant of William Beard, Elijah's younger brother. A visit was planned and soon Robert Morris Beard, the great grandson of Elijah's brother William, arrived in Arkansas from Raytown, Missouri to meet his many new found cousins. A lot of research and a little DNA was the key for uniting these descendants of Samuel and Rebecca Beard. The Arkansas Beards entertained Morris with much fellowship and many family stories

. Morris was born in 1914 at Adair County, Kentucky and he was so happy, at the age of 93, to meet his newly discovered cousins! These pictures are of some of the gathering of the clan.
The family of Morris has been in and around Adair County, Kentucky since Samuel Beard settled there in about 1798. The Arkansas Beard family have been in northwest Arkansas in Benton County since the mid 1860s. All of these descendants believe that genealogy is not just a study of names and dates, for there are real people and stories to gather, as well.
2. Minnie Bell Beard was born on 22 September 1889 in Benton County, Arkansas. About 1910 she married Edward B. Lewis. He was born on 15 December 1872 in Missouri. They had a daughter, Helen, born in Arkansas in 1910. In 1920 they lived at Venita, Craig County, Oklahoma where Edward Lewis was a steamfitter in the building trades. By 1930, the family lived in Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma where Edward owned a junk business and Minnie worked as a child nurse. Helen was nineteen. Edward Lewis died in January 1963 in Texas; Minnie Lewis died in October 1973 in Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma. She is said to

be buried at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Ponca City; Edward Lewis may be there as well.
3. Helen Opal Lewis, born 21 October 1910 in Arkansas, married John Silas Turner about 1931, probably in Oklahoma. He was born on 29 January 1902 in Oklahoma, parents not known. They had a son and daughter both born in Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma. John Turner died there on 15 May 1972; Helen Lewis Turner died in December 1983 in Ponca City. Burial places are not known. They had two known children, Betty Jo who married Thomas Mathew Cook, and Bill Gene who married Mary E. Hall.
2. Grover Stephenson Beard was born 22 August 1892 in Lowell, Benton County, Arkansas. He was still at home with his parents in 1910; when he filed his draft card in 1918 he claimed his parents as dependents. Grover did serve in World War I as a private in the U. S. Army and it is marked on his gravestone. He married to an unknown wife before 1920 and she was deceased by 1920, when he lived in his parents' home as a 27 year old widower. Very soon after, he married again, to Beulah Lee Jones, the daughter of John C. and Alice Jones. She was born on 3 June 1893 in Lowell, Benton County, Arkansas. On the 1930 census, he and "Dula" were listed in Colville, married ten years, with three young sons. His mother Mary Jane lived next door, and next to her was the Lephly Beard home. Also close by was Jasper Beard. Grover filed a World War II draft card stating that he lived at Healing Springs, Arkansas and was born in Lowell in Benton County. Grover died 16 September 1976 in Cave Springs, Benton County, Arkansas and was laid to rest at Spring Creek Cemetery there. Beulah Lee Jones Beard passed away on Christmas Eve of 1977 and was buried next to him at Spring Creek. Their children:

he was called "Mellie or Mallie" on censuses, family letters have been seen to name her Mealie Ann. She married in 1880, either in Marshall County, Tennessee or in Texas, to James Earl Patterson. James was born 28 May 1852 in Tennessee, the son of Newton Brown and Permelia Ann Stilwell Patterson. He was the nephew of Emmaline Patterson, who married Josiah Littleton Beard, Amelia's uncle. The Newton Brown Patterson family had gone to Texas in covered wagons with Josiah and Emmaline right before the Civil War. In 1870, the Pattersons lived in Benton County, Arkansas but moved back to Texas. By 1900, married twenty years, James and Amelia lived in Delta County, Texas with seven of their nine children still living, all of them at home. James died shortly after the census, on 2 February 1902, in Delta County. He is buried at Camp Shed Cemetery in Mount Joy, Delta County, Texas. Amelia appears as a 57 year old widow in 1910 with five children at home. She died on 12 February 1918 in Delta County and is buried at Camp Shed Cemetery as well. 2. Erastus William Patterson was born 28 January 1887 in Enloe, Delta County, Texas. He married Hattie E. Howell in 1908 in Delta County, Texas. She was the daughter of William W. and Lethia C. Howell, who were natives of South Carolina. Hattie was born 13 November 1888 in South Carolina. In 1910, "William E." and Hattie lived in Delta County with their baby son Liston. On his draft card, "Erastus
William" Patterson was thirty, lived at Cooper, Texas, stated that he was born in Enloe, Texas. He farmed in Delta County and was the support of a wife and four children. By 1920, the family had moved and were listed in Fannin County, Texas with five children. In 1930 they were living at Oakdale, Washita County, Oklahoma with their eight children. Hattie Howell Patterson died on 22 January 1954 at Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. She is buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Delta County. Erastus William Patterson died on 6 February 1998 in Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma. No burial place is known for him yet.
3. Liston A. Patterson was born 7 June 1909 in Texas. He died on 24 October 1976 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas and is buried at Oaklawn Cemetery in Delta County, Texas.
3. Delbert "Pat" Patterson was born 6 October 1911 in Enloe, Delta County, Texas. He married Nona Mullins, the daughter of Oscar C. and Ola Mullins, natives of Tennessee. They had three children. Delbert and Nona moved to Baytown, Harris County, Texas in 1943 when he started his 32 year career with the Humble Oil Refinery there. He died at the age of 97 on 13 February 2009 in Texas and is interred at Earthman Memory Gardens, Baytown, Harris County, Texas.

By 1920, the Lanes had moved to Hunter, Choctaw County, Oklahoma and were listed with their four children, living next to his father. On the 1930 census they are indexed as "Laura" and difficult to find, but they are in Oakes, Choctaw County, Oklahoma with six children. Flora Patterson Lane died 26 January 1968 in Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. She was buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Choctaw County. William Lane died 30 April 1977, also in Hugo, and is beside Flora at Mt Olivet. Their children:

2. Bevie Ann Patterson was born on 17 January 1892 in Delta County, Texas. She married, about 1910, William Thomas Nicholas. He was born 6 December 1884 in Putnam County, Tennessee, the son of Joseph E. Nicholas and wife Rebecca Tennessee Mills of Putnam County. They were on the 1920 census in Delta County with four young sons. Gladys Patterson, age 23, Bevie's sister, lived in the home with them. William and Bevie moved to Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas before 1930 and were listed with the four boys that year. We do not have a death date for William yet, but Bevie Patterson Nicholas died on 6 November 1986 in Port Arthur, Texas. The four sons of Bevie and William Nicholas were:
3. James Morris Nicholas was born 6 November 1911 in Texas. He married Lou Anna Cook, the daughter of John and Eloise Bell Cook, born 28 June 1914. In 1946 they were in Jefferson County, Texas where a son was born. They also lived in Ohio, and James died in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio on 25 September 1994. Lou Anna died 27 January 2005 in same. They are both at rest at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Lucas County. One known son is James Morris Nicholas.
3. William Herbert Nicholas, born 3 November 1913 in Texas, died in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas on 10 September 1996.
3. Henry Milton Nicholas was born on 28 June 1916 in Texas. He married a DuTreil. Henry died in August 1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
3. Robert Haskell Nicholas was born 14 April 1919 in Texas. He married Nancy Virginia Salvagio. Robert died on 30 January 1996 in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas. He had a son named Robert Haskell Nicholas, Jr.
2. Rothie Mae Patterson, born 14 January 1894 in Delta County, Texas, married about 1912 to Sterling Alfred Allsup, the son of William Brice and Frances McAbee Allsup. Sterling was born on 8 January 1884 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. He filed his draft papers in 1918 while living and farming at Bryans Mill in Cass County, Texas with his wife Rothie Allsup. In 1920 they were still in Cass County with three daughters and a son. They moved to Oklahoma before 1928 and were there for the 1930 enumeration at Elmer, in Jackson County, Oklahoma, on which they listed eight children. They eventually had eleven children. Sterling Allsup died in Texas on 18 October 1943. Rothie apparently remarried to a Lane, as her name is listed as Rothie P. Lane on the Social Security Death Index. She died at the age of 94 on 9 January 1989, last residence listed as El Paso, El Paso County, Texas. She is interred at the City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. 3. Elvie Mae Allsup was born 20 August 1912 in Enloe, Delta County, Texas. She married Morris Sheppard/Shepherd Renfroe, son of Peter Harry and Susie Bell Fortenberry Renfroe. Morris was a sergeant with the 81st Tank Battalian in the army in World War II. He was born 12 October 1912 in Lynn County, Texas, died on 28 November 1969 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. Elvie Mae Allsup Renfroe died 22 July 1994, also in Lubbock. He is buried at City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock County, Texas. Elvie and Morris had two known children, Virginia Lynn and Sherron Ann.
3. Irene Allsup, born in 1914 in Delta County, Texas, married B. B. "Dutch" Davis. She died on 12 June 2001 in El Paso, Texas and is buried at Evergreen East Cemetery in El Paso County, Texas. She had two known children, Jerry M. Davis, who preceded her in death, date unknown, and Barbara Davis who married a Horn.
3. Greta Frances Allsup was born 3 August 1916 in Cass County, Texas. She married Edward Harold Smith, who was born 27 October 1914 in Texas. They were both military veterans. Edward died on 20 October 1977 in El Paso, Texas and is buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, served in the U. S. Army as a sergeant in World War II. Greta is cited in U. S. Veterans Gravesites, also buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, Texas, served in the U. S. Navy, WT3. She died on 10 April 1999 in El Paso, Texas. They had two known children, Edward, Jr and Sterling Alfred, who was born in 1952 in El Paso and died in 2009 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah.
3. Glen A. Allsup was born on 30 March 1918 in Bryans Mill, Cass County, Texas. He married Ruth Sanders. He retired in 1983 from Anderson Clayton Company in Lubbock after 32 years as foreman. Glen died on 22 November 2009 in Lubbock County, Texas and is buried at the City of Lubbock Cemetery there. One known child is Steven Allsup.
3. Sterling Randall Allsup was born 14 April 1921 in Bryans Mill, Cass County, Texas. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps and married Hazel Marie Buck just afterwards, on 21 October 1942 in San Diego, California. She was born on 4 December 1922 in Texas. He spent almost three years in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he trained as a watch repairman, but was employed by the Helium Plant in Amarillo, Texas for thirty years as dock superintendent. After he retired, he began working on antique clocks and became a certified horologist and clock collector. His wife Hazel died on 7 July 1998 in Potter County, Texas. He died on 17 January 2007 at Amarillo, Randall County, Texas. From his obituary: "He was married for 62 years and had a life replete with trials and tribulations, joys and heartaches. Always the Marine, however, he withstood it all and managed to inculcate two sons and numerous coworkers to his rigid work ethics and tenacious spirit to do the best you can at whatever you do. This was most obvious in his love of clock repair and his agonizing over making a 200 year old clock run like new. His wisdom, love, and his wry sense of humor will be greatly missed, but his influence will continue to impact his only remaining son, his granddaughter, and his two great grandchildren. Both Hazel Buck Allsup and Sterling Allsup are buried at the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. They had two sons, Randall Eugene Pasha Allsup, who was born in Potter County on 27 September 1953 and died on 19 September 2005 in Austin, Travis County, Texas; and Sterling Richard "Rick" Allsup.
3. Nadine Marie Allsup was born 19 October 1927 in Jackson County, Oklahoma. She married Hamilton Walter Crowder. He was born 3 May 1926 in Maryland, the son of dairy farmer John and Virginia Crowder of Baltimore. On 16 August 1944 he enlisted for service at Baltimore and served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army. He is buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in Fort Bliss, Texas, with a death date of 18 July 1973 in El Paso. Nadine Allsup Crowder died on 10 January 2008 in El Paso. No burial place is yet found. They had two children, Dwain Scott and Ladonna.
3. Lewis Granville Allsup was born in 1924 in Lynn County, Texas. He married Dorothy Ann Roberts. Lewis died on 15 September 1965 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. They had one known child, Sterling Lewis.

Gladys became a registered nurse, receiving her training at Fayetteville City Hospital and at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, according to her obituary. On the 1930 census she lived with her married sister Octavia Patterson Briscoe in Paris, Lamar County, Texas, listed as a trained nurse at hospital. She died in July 1932 after a long illness, in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. She was survived by her five sisters. No burial place is yet known.
2. Octavia Patterson was born on 3 May 1898 in Delta County, Texas. After the death of her mother in 1918, she lived with her aunt, Betty Patterson, in Lamar County, Texas. Betty was the widow of Rice Patterson, who was James Earl Patterson's youngest brother. Octavia is listed as 21 years old on the 1920 census. About 1923, she married Nelson E. Briscoe. In 1930, Nelson and Octavia lived in Paris, Lamar County, Texas, where he worked as a plumber. Living with them was their two year old daughter Geraldine and Octavia's sister Gladys Patterson, listed as a trained nurse at the hospital. Nelson died on 14 May 1966 at Paris, Lamar County, Texas. He is buried at Meadowbrook Memorial Park in Paris, Texas. Octavia is there with him, date of death 5 May 1981.

1. Caledonia Victoria "Callie" Beard was born 5 March 1857 in Marshall County, Tennessee. She married James T. Robinson on 28 December 1875 in Marshall County. He was the son of Michael Anderson Robinson, a wagonmaker in Marshall County, and his wife Mary Luna. James was born 29 January 1856 in nearby Lincoln County, Tennessee. By 1880, James and Caledonia Robinson were living near his parents in Marshall County with their two small children. In 1900 they lived in Giles County, Tennessee and had added significantly to the family. Nine of their ten children were still living, all at home, ranging in age from 22 to two months. Unfortunately, James died at an early age in Marshall County on 20 January 1903. We do not have a burial place for him yet. Callie died on 9 November 1914 in Lewisburg, Marshall County, Tennessee, but we cannot find her on the 1910 census. In 1920, their unmarried children are living together, working the farm in Giles County. The Robinsons may have had farms in both Giles and Marshall County, as their children are found in both places and some are back and forth. This article was in the Rogers Democrat of 15 October 1914: "News came Monday of the death of Mrs. C. Robinson of Louisberg [Lewisburg] Tennessee. She was a sister of D. J. Beard [Doctor Josiah] of this place, and Robert [Beard]. Also of John [Harvey] Beard, who lives east of town." Tom Robinson died on 1 January 1921 in Tennessee, leaving Minnie with young children and a baby on the way. In 1920 he was listed in Marshall County with his wife and three sons. The family moved to Benton County, Arkansas before 1922. In 1930, they were listed in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas and had five children. John filed a draft card for World War II, and he lived at 115 Rosemontave, Modesto, Stanislaus County, California. He worked for Tri Valley Packing Company and his wife was Alma. They seem to have stayed in Modesto, Stanislaus County, as Alma and their son Elmo J. Robinson both died there. No death record is yet found for John Anderson Robinson; his wife Alma Sharp Robinson died on 12 November 1872 in California.

She went to California at some point, for a California Death Index for her gives birth and death date of 19 August 1949 in Fresno Co, California, father listed Robinson, mother's maiden name listed Beard. She is buried at Sanger Cemetery in Sanger, Fresno County, California with a stone that reads "Gone but not forgotten".
2. Virgil Loyd Robinson, born on 26 February 1900 in Tennessee, married about 1923 to Vera Foster. She was born 26 February 1906 in Tennessee. On the 1900 census he was a baby with his parents, but oddly, listed as Douglas, born February 1900. On his World War I draft registration in Marshall County, Tennessee, he said he was age 18, lived at Cornersville, went to school and farms, working for his brother Robert Robinson. He is not found on the 1920 census yet. In 1930, Loyd lived in Giles County, Tennessee with Vera and their three young children. Robert Robinson, his nephew and the son of his brother Thomas, was living with them, age 24. Loyd Robinson died 17 February 1972 in Giles County. Vera Foster Robinson died 20 September 1988. They are both at rest at Lynnwood Cemetery, Lynnville, Giles County, Tennessee.

1. Doctor Josiah "Dock" Beard was born 1 July 1859 in Marshall County, Tennessee. On the 1860 census, he was a baby of ten months, so he was born in 1859, no matter what the 1900 census reports (1861). In 1880, he lived with his brother John Harvey in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. He married about the year 1888, probably in Benton County, to Sally A. Woodruff. She was born in September 1861 in either Mississippi or Louisiana, depending on which census you believe. We do not yet know her parents. In 1900, married twelve years, Dock and Sally were both forty years old and had two daughters. They lived next to his brother John Harvey Beard in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. In 1910, they lived in Anderson in Benton County. Dock's occupation was listed as "telephone switchboard operator" and Sally's was "keeper of restaurant", so it is probable that by this time they may have been operating the Cave Springs Hotel, which we know they were running by 1915 at the latest. They had a daughter living at home, and sadly report only three children surviving out of seven born. Sally Woodruff Beard passed away on 13 July 1919 and on the 1920 census, Josiah "Peard" is listed in Colville, Benton County, living with Roberta, his daughter. In 1930, Dock J. Beard was still living with his now married daughter Roberta Aumick in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. He was seventy years old. He died on 6 June 1939 either there or in Benton County. Sally and Dock are buried under a double headstone at Rogers Cemetery in Benton County, Arkansas. They had two daughters, both of whom lived in California at the time they died.
2. Roberta Beard was born 31 January 1890 in Arkansas. About 1922 she married Leo Olney Aumick. He was born 4 July 1882 at Lucas, Jackson County, Iowa, the son of Peter Eugene and Amanda Young Aumick. He had been married to Esther, last name unknown, in 1918 when he filed his draft papers in Washington County, Arkansas. He was a sign painter in Fayetteville. On the 1920 census he was married to Esther and they had a three year old daughter, Jean. In about 1922, he married Roberta Beard and they are found in 1930 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas with their two daughters and Dock J. Beard, widower, age 70. Roberta and Leo moved to California at some point, and Leo died there on 10 June 1954 in Los Angeles. Roberta Beard Aumick died on 5 January 1966 in Orange County, California. No burial places are yet known.

2. Lena Bell Beard was born on the Fourth of July 1893 in Arkansas. Lena married on 27 December 1909, at fifteen, to Albert Lon "Bert" McGehee, son of Robert and Hettie Howl McGehee of Arkansas. He was born 7 July 1888 in Eureka Springs, Carroll County, Arkansas. Right after their marriage, they lived close by both sets of parents in Anderson, Benton County, Arkansas, and Bert was a house painter. Soon he went to work for the railroad, and in 1920 they were in Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma, where he was a brakeman and they had an eight year old son, Rex. By 1930, Bert and Lena lived in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida. Bert was a railroad switchman; Rex worked as a candy salesman. In 1942 when he registered for the draft, Bert and Lena lived at Spokane, Washington. They moved to California and that is where he passed away on 10 October 1966, in San Bernardino County. Lena Beard McGehee died on 6 October 1971 in Los Angeles County. No burial places are known at this time.
3. Rex Maurice McGehee was born on 31 May 1911 in Cave Springs, Benton County, Arkansas. He lived in several places with his parents as he grew up, and in August 1942, we find a record for him on U. S. Navy muster rolls. He is on a passenger ship's record in 1948, arriving in Los Angeles from Honolulu with a wife named Grace. He died on 5 May 1986, last residence listed as Montebello, Los Angeles County, California.
1. Sarah "Sallie" Beard, born about 1862 in Marshall County, Tennessee, is last found on the 1870 census when she was eight. There has been in the past a report that she married a "Farr", first name unknown, and lived and died in Tennessee, but searches have so far been unsuccessful.
1. Robert Lee Samuel Beard was born on 24 March 1868 in Marshall County, Tennessee; he was just a baby when both his parents died in 1870. He was raised by his sister, Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Luna and her husband Jeremiah Monroe Luna. They left Marshall County and came to Benton County, Arkansas and settled near their uncle, Josiah Littleton Beard. In 1880, Robert was listed as a boy of twelve living in the Luna home in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. Robert grew up and went to Texas where his elder brother Elijah William Beard was living. There he met and married Laura May Bazemore. They married about 1890 and had a son, Chesley H. "Chess" Beard, born 16 September 1889 in Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas. Laura died soon after and Robert Lee Beard was back in Arkansas by 1895. There he courted and in July 1895 married the widow of his cousin Samuel Franklin Beard, who died in Oklahoma in a gunshot accident. She was Martha Angeline "Mattie" Langley Beard, born in Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas on 27 February 1871, the daughter of William and Sarah Langley. She and Samuel Franklin Beard had three children. She would have eight more children with Robert Beard. In 1900, Robert and Mattie lived in Washington, Benton County, Arkansas, married only five years but with a very full house already. Living with them were her three children, Otto, Dora, and Willie; "Jessie", who is Chesley, Robert's son, and two children Robert and she had together, Oather and Zora. In 1910, she had ten of her ten children living, and they lived in Colville in Benton County with seven children at the table. In 1920 in Colville, they still had six children at home and lived near John Harvey Beard, his brother. In 1930, they had four children at home, a daughter in law, and a granddaughter in the house. Robert and Mattie lived long and full lives in Benton County. He died there on 12 Jul 1956 and was buried at Goad Springs Cemtery. Mattie died 15 July 1958 in Benton County and is also at Goad Springs. A tribute was written to her by a niece or nephew in the Benton County Pioneer, Volume 13, page 32: "Aunt Mattie Beard was one of the great ladies. Unselfish, devoted to her family and church. She spent her life in their service. She loved all children and always made us feel so welcome. I can see her at her gate, always so glad to see us arrive and so sad to see us go. She raised eleven children but I never heard her complain about the work she had to do. Her first husband, Frank, was brought in dead in a wagon, and he had been dead three days when they arrived. He was shot accidentally in Oklahoma. She bore up under this and many such crises. I received a letter when she was 75 telling me that she just couldn't do the work in her garden that she used to. That was the only complaint I ever heard her make. She was one of the truly great ladies of Arkansas. A real Pioneer!"

2. Chesley H. "Chess" Beard, born on 16 September 1889 in Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas, was listed as "Jessie" on the 1900 census when he was a boy. He is not yet found on the 1910 census; he was not in Robert and Mattie's home that year, and we know that at some time he left Benton County, Arkansas and his father and returned to Texas. He filled out his draft card in Bastrop County there when he was 26 and married, therefore, he married Ella Rose Pogue before June of 1917. She was born in 1888 in Arkansas. By 1920, he and his wife were back in Benton County, Arkansas, in Washington County. They lived with her parents, Jacob W. and Fannie Singleton Smith Pogue. Chesley was listed as "Chester". They are not found in 1930, but on his World War II draft card, he lived at Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas, wife Ella Rose Beard, and they farmed. Chesley died in July 1965 in Benton County, Arkansas. Ella lived to be 96, passing away in 1984. They are together at Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas.

2. Oather Lee Beard was born 26 May 1896 in Benton County, Arkansas. He filled out a draft card in Benton County when he was 21, living in Lowell, Arkansas and farming. He was drafted for the American forces, and Private Beard marched to the front in France just as the Armistice was signed. Oather came home and probably married after the war, between 1917 and 1920. His bride was Onda Jones, daughter of George Berry Jones and Florence Tennessee Sharp. Onda was born in March 1897 in probably Benton County, Arkansas. In 1920, the newlywed couple lived very near his parents and John and Mary Jane Beard in Colville, Benton County. In 1930, they lived there still and had three children. They were still neighbors to his parents, Kephey and Martha, Grover and Beulah Beard. By the time he filled out World War II draft papers, Oather and Onda lived a half mile east of Cave Springs, Benton County, Arkansas. Onda died in 1945, probably in Benton County. She is buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County. Oather married Nora Williams, who was the mother of several Williams children. Oather Lee Beard died in 1984 in Lowell, Benton County. He is interred at Spring Creek Cemetery, Benton County, Arkansas.
3. Hollis Ray Beard was born 10 July 1920 in Benton County, Arkansas. He died on 19 April 1998, last known address was Melrose, Stearns County, Minnesota. He had one child, Michael Lee Beard, with his first wife Marjorie Thorn Beard (parents: Amy Rosina Potter and John Thorn, UK side of tree)

3. Living Daughter Beard was born 27 December 1931 and lives in Newton County, Missouri.
2. Zora Bell Beard was born 17 February 1897 in Benton County, Arkansas. About 1918, she married Elbert F. Hedges. The Hedges family was from old Pike County, Missouri and had moved to Caddo County, Oklahoma by 1910. Elbert was born in the Mississippi River town of Louisiana, Pike County, Missouri on 23 July 1896 to Robert C. and Nannie Lee Freels/Frields Hedges. By the time of the World War I draft registration, he was in Colville, Benton County, and he was married to Zora. Elbert worked as a mail carrier for the county. In 1920, they had a little girl, Mildred, and lived next door to his parents in Colville. In 1930, Zora and "Albert" still lived at Colville and had four children. The family later moved to Oklahoma. During World War II, their son Harold was in the Army Air Corps and went missing in the Pacific. Zora was listed as his next of kin on the lists of missing or killed in action, and her address was given as Route 8, Box 314, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Harold was found and came home from the war, however. Elbert died in Oklahoma in 1952 and he was buried at Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma, near Oklahoma City. Zora lived to be 92, passing away on 22 January 1990 in Oklahoma City, and buried under a double stone with her husband Elbert at Sunnylane.
3. Mildred Virginia Hedges was born 26 September 1918 in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. On 30 June 1937, she married Charles Leonard Johnson. He was the son of Samuel G. and Dona Cowan Johnson, born on 23 November 1917 in Pierce, McIntosh County, Oklahoma. Charles died on 11 December 2002 in Seminole County, Oklahoma. Mildred Hedges Johnson died on 28 May 2010 in the same. They are both at rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole County, Oklahoma. They had children Jerry, Larry Gene, and Charles R. Johnson.
3. Harold T. Hedges was born about 1923 in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. He died in November 1979, place unknown.
2. Floy Elizabeth Beard was born on 31 July 1900 in Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. She was listed with her parents on the 1930 census in Colville at age 29. She married about 1941 to Alies Alexander Parsons of Faulkner County. He was the son of Alies Andrew Parsons and Tennessee Jane Caple. He was married first to Marietta E. "Mollie" Livingston, a school teacher, in 1914 in Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas. They had two girls; Marietta died in January 1941. Alex Parsons died on 7 December 1965, at home in Bentonville. The obituary of A. A. Parsons states that ". . .a former school leader, dies". He was a former superintendent of Faulkner County Schools, taught in those schools for over 40 years, and served as county superintendent from 1919 until 1933. Surviving was his wife, Mrs. Floy Parsons. He is buried at Goad Springs Cemetery in Benton County, the family burial ground of many Beard families. Floy Beard Parsons died in September 1991 and she is at rest at Goad Springs Cemetery. They had no children.
2. Everette Earl Beard was born on 18 August 1902 in probably Colville, Benton County, Arkansas. He was called Earl or Earl E. on all census records, but listed as Everette Earl Beard on his headstone. Earl married about 1928 to Frieda Ann Sharp. She was born 12 July 1908 in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas, the daughter of Alfred Brown and Effie L. Mayo Sharp. Right after their marriage, Earl and Frieda moved to Vancouver, Washington and were listed there in Clark County on the 1930 census records. They had an eight month old son, Rex. The family apparently were back in Arkansas by the spring of 1934, for Frieda died in Rogers, Benton County on 10 April 1934. The death may have been due to complications of childbirth, for little Teddy Walter Beard, their third son, was born this month and died two months later. Mother and child are laid to rest at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County. Earl married a second time, but we do not know when. The bride's name was Ella, she was born 9 February 1920. They may have lived a time in Iowa, as Earl's social security number was issued there. They are said to have had two daughters and a son. Earl Beard died on 28 april 1974 in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas. He is buried at Goad Springs Cemetery in Benton County, as is Ella, who died 25 March 1978 and is with him at Goad Springs. His children with Freda Ann Sharp are listed here; his children with Ella are not known.
3. Rex Bee Beard was born 22 July 1929 in probably Clark County, Washington. He was in the service of the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, starting service on 2 May 1950, and is buried at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, California, with date of death 26 March 1996 in Modesto, Stanislaus County, California.

3. Teddy Walter Beard was born in April 1934. He died from complications of whooping cough at just two months of age on 28 June 1934.
2. Jewell Anna Beard, born 22 June 1905 in probably Colville, Benton County, Arkansas, married Elry Aaron on 28 November 1923 in probably Benton County. Elry was born 18 January 1902 in Arkansas. He was the son of Daniel Marion and Ruth Ada Sharp Aaron. It is an interesting fact that Elry's grandfather, George Washington Aaron, was born in Adair County, Kentucky in 1839, the seat of our Beard family from 1798. This family was no doubt acquainted with ours way back then and possibly earlier. In 1930, Elry and Jewell lived in Washington, Benton County, Arkansas with two small children. They lived next door to his parents. At some point they lived in Missouri. Jewell Anna Beard Aaron died on 23 april 1972 in Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas. Elry died on 7 June 1982 in the same. They are buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County. They had seven children, some of the names are not known.
3. Jack Wendell Aaron was born in Benton County on 24 October 1924. Jack married a Burton. He died at Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas on 11 January 1997 and is buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County.

3. Anna Marie Aaron was born in Arkansas in 1935 and died in 1938. She is at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County.
2. Lucille Leda Beard was born 7 September 1907 in Benton County, Arkansas. On 1 May 1938, she married Albert Leroy Ford in Benton County. Albert, a carpenter and a minister, was born 25 July 1905 in Arkansas, the son of John Elbert Ford and wife Anna Mae Nichols. He died in August 1976 in Benton County; she died on 25 September 2001 in Benton County. They are buried at Goad Springs Cemetery there. Three known children are:
3. Bobby Lee Ford was born in Arkansas on 9 July 1939. He died the same day and is buried at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Cave Springs, Benton County, Arkansas.

2. Opal Bernice Beard was born 9 February 1909 in Arkansas. She died at age 35 on 8 April 1944 and was buried at Goad Springs Cemetery in Benton County.
2. Dane Clyde Beard, born 27 January 1911 in Arkansas, married at a young age to Nellie Ilene Routh, who was born 30 April 1912 in Arkansas, no parents known to us. In 1930, they lived with his parents and had a baby girl, Wanda. At some point they moved to California, and Dane worked for over forty years as foreman at Rancho Sespe in Fillmore, California, an emormous agricultural enterprise in the Santa Clara area. Nellie died in Ventura, California on 17 August 1964. We do not know a burial place. Dane remarried to Sue L. Holland on 28 March 1966 in Ventura, California. She was born 16 August 1913 in Barling, Sebastian County, Arkansas, the daughter of Joseph Shelby Holland Sr and Clara E. Delap. Dane and Sue retired and moved back to Benton County, Arkansas about 1980. He died at home in Bentonville on 9 June 1991 and was buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Benton County. He had eight children, seven still living, twenty grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Sue Holland Beard died 2 June 2001 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas and is buried also at Spring Creek. Dane and his first wife, Nellie Ilene Routh Beard were parents of eight children:
