Rebecca Milliken married Samuel McClure

Rebecca Milliken, who was born about 1800 in Kentucky, no doubt Adair County, Kentucky, grew up there and in Maury County, Tennessee. Between 1820 and 1828, she married Samuel McClure in Bedford or Henderson County, Tennessee. Samuel McClure is found in Henderson County on the 1820, 1840, and 1850 censuses, but it appears that his wife Rebecca died during the 1830s, after having children Nancy, John, and James. Samuel married again, to Margaret Williams.

The children of Rebecca Milliken and Samuel McClure are:

1. Nancy Cynthia McClure, born July 1829, married William "Bill" Henderson Williams

2. John McClure, born about 1830

3. James McClure, born about 1831

4. (Possibly) Mary McClure

No concrete information is so far found for any of these children except for Nancy.

hi My great great grandmother Nancy Cynthia McClure wlliams was said to have been adopted by the McClure's. She was a Cherokee. Any information? You have did a wonderful job . Do you have any pictures of Rebecca or Samuel McClure. THANK YOU

Hello and welcome! In my research of all these descendants of the big Beard family, I have had to ignore certain "genealogy myths" that always pop up in every line of every old family--the most prevalent one being of someone having Indian blood and/or an adoption. This is not to say that it did not happen, but without proof, we can't give it credit. Nancy certainly could have been, and I will add a line to that effect, but know that most old Southern families have a story, passed down through the generations, of Indian blood--and usually Cherokee.
